JUNGLE DREAMS: EZ RIVERO IN THE SURFER’S JOURNAL

The Lost Works artist Ez Rivero has been celebrated across 16 pages of The Surfer’s Journal, Issue 35.5. Founded in 1992 and still largely reader-supported, the Journal has spent more than three decades championing long-form storytelling and high-end photography. It’s the kind of magazine people keep, not recycle.

“Jungle Dreams” tells how an Argentinian who wanted to be a rock star became one of Costa Rica’s most in-demand surf photographers instead. Fittingly, pro surfer Kassia Meador says, “His images feel more like album covers than surf photos.”

In his interview, journalist Tony John Andrews adds that they “could be mistaken for old Surfer mag cutouts from the 1970s.” The interview with Eztook place over his first-ever Zoom call, something he’d managed to avoid his whole life.

Look out for Smooth Ride and Breaking, two prints from Ez’s exclusive collection on The Lost Works, among the photographs.

The full story is in print now. Pick up a copy here to read the full interview, and support one of surfing’s great independent magazines.
