Made by Hand, Made to Order: The Craft Behind Our Frames
Many of the photographs in our collection begin somewhere elemental: a reef break at first light, or a horizon as the sun drops. We believe they deserve to be framed in the same spirit, with natural materials and real craft. When you order from The Lost Works, careful hands turn your chosen print into a piece of fine art made to last a lifetime.
We only partner with trusted, independent print and framing studios in the UK, who bring decades of experience to their work. Nothing is mass-produced; every piece is made to order.
The Print
Every giclée print is printed on Canson Infinity Rag Photographique, a 100% cotton rag paper. It is checked by hand, then dry mounted in a hot press so it lies perfectly flat beneath its glazing. Before mounting, every print with a border is subtly embossed by the gallery, marking it as authentic work produced in collaboration with the photographer.
The Frame
We provide a complimentary framing service to ensure every piece is protected and displayed with the care it deserves. Frames are hand cut from responsibly sourced timber in three standard finishes: black, white or solid oak. Each has a slight grain texture that you can see and feel.
The frame is finished with a sheet of shatter-proof, artist-grade acrylic, which absorbs 99% of UV radiation to protect your artwork for years to come. It’s also lightweight, which makes your piece easier to hang.
The Profile
We use a shadow box frame for a clean, contemporary feel. It sets the print within the frame with a band of space around it, adding a quiet depth and a soft line of shadow that draws your eye straight to the photograph.
- Small, Medium and Large prints have a 2.5cm fine art paper border in a 1.5cm shadow box frame.
- Grand, Statement and Gallery prints have a 3.5cm border in a 2cm shadow box frame.
The Details You Won’t See
The care carries through to the back of the frame, right down to the hand-tied hanging cord. Cork spacers on the bottom corners help it sit snugly against the wall while letting air circulate. Every piece is signed and dated by the framer on a label on the back, a small mark of the hands that made it, and arrives with a certificate of authenticity.
