HOW TO HANG & CARE FOR YOUR PRINT
HOW TO HANG & CARE FOR YOUR PRINT
Every framed print from The Lost Works arrives ready to hang. A few minutes of planning will make sure it sits exactly where it should.
What's on the back
Every framed TLW print comes with a cord fixed to the back. Hang it by the cord onto a picture hook or screw fixed securely into the wall. On the back you'll also find the framer's signed and dated label, a mark of the hands who brought your art to life.

What you'll need
- Picture hooks (for larger works, you may need secure wall fixtures suited to your surface for extra support)
- A pencil and tape measure
- A spirit level (or a level app on your phone)
- A hammer (or a drill if you’re using plugs and screws)
- A second pair of hands for larger sizes
Always check the weight rating on your fixings, and use a detector to check for hidden pipes and cables before drilling.
Step by step
- Choose the spot. Pick a wall, ideally away from direct sunlight, radiators, fireplaces and damp rooms like bathrooms.
- Find the height. As a guide, hang the centre of the print around 145–150cm from the floor, roughly eye level. Above furniture, leave 15–25cm between the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
- Measure the cord. Lay the frame face down. Pull the cord up taut towards the top of the frame and measure the distance from the top of the cord to the top edge of the frame.
- Mark the hook position. Mark where you want the top of the frame to sit, then measure down by the cord distance. That's where your hook goes.
- Fix the hook. Fix your hook or screw at the mark, angled slightly upwards so the cord sits securely. For larger prints, use two hooks spaced apart along the cord. It spreads the weight and helps the frame stay level.
- Hang and level. Hook the cord on, step back and adjust gently until it sits straight.

Caring for your print
- Light: our artist-grade acrylic absorbs 99% of UV light, protecting your giclée print from fading. Even so, avoid long hours of direct, strong sunlight where you can.
- Environment: keep prints away from high heat sources, steam and humidity, which can affect both frame and paper over time.
- Cleaning: dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For marks, use a cloth lightly dampened with water. Never use glass cleaner, ammonia or paper towels, which can scratch or cloud acrylic.
- Handling: always lift the frame by its sides, not by the cord or by the top of the frame.
