How to Choose Your Frame & Size
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR FRAME & SIZE
We want your artwork to take pride of place in your space, and picking the right size and frame will help achieve that. Here are a few tips from us to help you decide.
Start with the space
Before choosing a size, measure the space it will live in. A print that's too small for its wall looks lost; one that's too large crowds the room.
A few easy guidelines we like to follow when it comes to sizing art:
- Above a sofa, bed or sideboard: aim for a print (or group) that fills around three-quarters of the furniture's width.
- On an open wall: let the print fill roughly two-thirds of the clear wall space.
- In a hallway or narrow space: go portrait, or choose a smaller size you'll see up close.
- When in doubt, go bigger. Landscape and ocean images especially reward scale. A larger print reads as a window; a smaller one as a postcard.
But rules are also made to be broken, so we encourage you to push the boundaries. Trust your instincts!

Split a landscape into a diptych
Some walls may suit two frames better than one, like above a wide bed or along a sideboard. If you’ve fallen in love with a landscape print that doesn’t quite work for the space, we can split many of our landscape prints across a pair of frames, creating a diptych that reads as one continuous view.
Diptychs are a bespoke service, tailored to your wall and the image. Get in touch with your wall measurements and the landscape print you love, and we’ll advise on what works. Contact Us

Choosing your frame
We’re big believers that a frame should frame the image, not compete with it. All TLW frames are hand cut and have a slight grain texture.
- Black: sharp and graphic. Lovely with high-contrast, black-and-white or night images, and in rooms with dark metalwork or bold interiors.
- White: light and gallery-like. Lets scenes breathe, and suits pale, minimal rooms.
- Oak: warm and natural. It pairs with earthy landscapes, desert tones and homes full of wood, linen and texture.
A simple way to decide: pick the frame finish that echoes something already in the room, such as a window frame, the table legs, or a lamp base. If you’re looking for something more bespoke, we can create custom frames on request – just drop us a line to discuss your framing ideas.
Border vs full bleed
Choose a paper border to give your photograph room to breathe, or a full-bleed finish for an image that extends right to the frame.
- Border: a quieter, gallery feel that draws the eye inward. Lovely for detailed or minimal images, smaller sizes and art walls. Every print with a border is subtly embossed by the gallery.
- Full bleed: bold and immersive, like a window onto the view. Good for sweeping landscapes, ocean scenes and statement sizes, and it takes up a little less wall space for the same image size.
All our frames are shadow box frames as standard, leaving space between the photograph and the acrylic glazing. That depth gives every print a considered, gallery-style finish, whichever you choose.

Protection built in
Every framed TLW print is glazed with artist-grade acrylic that absorbs 99% of UV light. Paired with archival giclée printing, this helps protect colours from fading for years to come, even in a bright, sunlit room.
